Professor M.L. Kapoor [Brief Biodata] has 35 years of research experience in the field of extractive metallurgy covering the thermodynamic and kinetic studies of different extraction processes & development of processes for recoveries from wastes. With thermodynamic models and the measured thermodynamic data, he immensely contributed to thermodynamics of liquid and solid metallurgical systems. He obtained his Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Metallurgical Engg from BHU and Ph.D. from TU Berlin. He executed numerous research projects & published over 100 papers in reputed journals like Zeitschrift fuer das Metalkunde, Eisen and Stahl, Met. Trans, Acta Metallurgica, & International Metallurgical Reviews. His two-volume books on Chemical and Metallurgical Thermodynamics serve as standard text books. He is the recipient of National Metallurgist Day Award (1981), Distinguished Alumni Award (BHU), and Kamani Gold Medals (1981,1989). His contributions to the growth of the dept. by mentoring several faculty members and serving as the HoD twice, have been noteworthy.

In his honour, a lecture series entitled "Professor M.L. Kapoor Lecture Series" is started in the academic session 2019-20 with the kind support through endowment fund provided by the Dean (Resource and Alumni Affairs), IIT Roorkee. The frequency of lectures in this series may be one to two lectures per year.

Prof. M.L. Kapoor lectures shall be delivered by eminent academicians/researchers/professionals in the field of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.
